Now that the film is done. . . a web blog by producer Erica Ginsberg
November 2, 2003 Getting the film out there has been like a rollercoaster. Sometimes I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse that Leon and I both have full-time jobs. On the one hand, I feel like our time is so limited to follow-through on so many things that need follow-through. On the other hand, the distractions of our other careers keep our filmmaker neuroses in check (at least most of the time) when things don't go our way. Lots of ups and downs in the past two months. IDFA passed on the film for its festival and Sundance Fund for our outreach funding proposal, but we will be going to Amsterdam for the Docs for Sale market at the end of this month. I have been keeping on top of things with many many other festival applications and we should be hearing back from some of them in another month or two. We also have coordinated a Washington DC screening at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars early next year. And we have looked to peers for feedback, especially at those moments when the whole festival application process harkens back to the process of applying to colleges. Will we get a thick envelope or a thin one? A long e-mail or a terse one or none at all? And does any of it matter anyway? |
